State of Origin Game 3 : Live Blog

By Aaron Callaghan

The Queensland Maroons took game one in a tight contest, the New South Wales Blues ran away with game two convincingly which sets up a winner-take-all decider for game three.

A broadcaster and Rugby League executive’s wet dream.

Game three is being held in stadium Australia and the Blues are heavy favourites. In my opinion New South Wales is primed to complete the series victory and make it two series on the run, and most importantly go on a short dominant run which means everything in one of the fiercest rivalries in the sporting world. Stringing together three or four series victories in a row can shape how we remember a whole decade Origins.

Brad Fitler has made some great selections, some head scratchers but has mostly pulled the right selection levers, what I’m most concerned about is Fitler’s bench rotations, getting the right minutes rotation and at the right times. The coaching and strategy battle will be of significant interest to me in game three.

It is extremely hard to ‘Live Blog’ on the website platform I use, so I’ll do my best, I’ll be utilising the chat box below a lot and updates below that, so come in to say hello.

Queensland have started strongly, making metres, getting to good kicks but give away a penalty in front of the sticks almost, 10m out.

James Maloney - Penalty Goal - 6th minute.
— Aaron - The Unsportsmen

Corey Norman grubber for a Felise Kaufusi converted try. Queensland lead 6-2 and are running all over NSW. Cherry-Evans making smart plays, leading the team around.

15th minute
— Aaron - The Unsportsmen

27 minutes gone - 10 penalties.

Time to sin-bin a referee.
— Aaron

28th minute - Ethan Lowe penalty goal.

Queensland 8-2
— Aaron C

Paul Vaghan loved that one! Crashes over from 5m out. NSW try. Maloney converts.

Scores level 10 all.
— Aaron C.

8 all half time. Josh McGuire mouthing off like a pork chop.

Queensland must feel really good about how they’re travelling. Munster best on ground.
— Aaron C

McGuire KO’s Michael Morgan with a stray elbow ... He can’t help himself this bloke.

Morgan out cold leaves the field. Still 10 all. A good old fashioned arm wrestle.
— Aaron C.

James Tedesco finishes a block play out wide to score in the corner, pushing Chambers and Gagai over.

Best fullback in the game. Sorry Knights fans.

Maloney converts NSW lead 14 - 6. 51st minute.
— Aaron C

Damien Cook seeks some sleepy markers and zips out of dummy half to score under the sticks.

Maloney converts. NSW 20-8. 59th minute.

Josh McGuire right of the sticks. Queensland draw closer 20-14.

Shocking defence by the Blues and a stupid escort penalty of Frizell.

Deja vu as Ethan Lowe charges down Maloney’s kick. Queensland score as Papali crashes over.

20 all. 77th minute.

It’s a good old fashioned NSW implosion with the series on the line.

I took NSW with the 9.5 start. A good way to light $50 on fire - backing NSW in an Origin decider.

Fergo breaks away down the sideline to put Teddy in the corner.

NSW win it on the buzzer 26-20.

New South Wales somehow manage to swing two Origin series victories on the trot, a redemption of sorts for Mitchell Pearce, New South Wales tried their hardest to choke it away but ultimately came away with the win in the 79th minute.

You simply cannot discount a Queensland Origin team.
