Shane Warnes Ashes Team

By Aaron Callaghan

The Unsportsmen are on the look out for an editor and site contributors. If you are available to volunteer your time. Please reach out via email or Twitter. We’d love to hear from you.

Shane Warne this week named his preferred Ashes team and its difficult to disagree with the greatest spin bowler of all time.

It is usually best practice to ignore Shane, not necessarily because he's wrong or ignorant or boring but rather because it has become tiresome trying to decipher what angle Shane is working. Hint - it's usually a new book.

Below is Warney's Ashes XI

1. David Warner
2. Joe Burns
3. Marcus Harris
4. Steve Smith
5. Travis Head
6. Marcus Stoinis
7. Tim Paine
8. Pat Cummins
9. Jhye Richardson
10. Nathan Lyon
11. Josh Hazlewood

Warney had me, he almost had me until he named Marcus Stoinis in the all rounder slot. The Unsportsmen are big fans of ‘Stoiny-boi’, however blooding him as a test all-rounder in England, against the 'Duke ball' is a recipe for disaster and on Warnes exclusion of Starc, well nothing more needs to be said - https://www.sportingnews.com/au/cricket/news/mitchell-starc-shane-warne-australia-sri-lanka-cricket-test/15teb93b6l4lc1vd8czi3njpd4

Enough about Warney’s team, here is my best Ashes squad for this this years contest;
